Well, that went well. AirPower, Apple multiple devices Wireless Charger that was announced alongside the iPhone X … yeah, not the XS, but the X before it, today got officially cancelled.
The device itself, fairly basic on paper, was a Wireless Charging mat, however it would allow you to charge, not only, your iPhone (or any Qi device for that matter), but also charge an Apple Watch and AirPods, with the Wireless Charging case. Sounds great on paper, however, production of AirPower was plagued with over-heating issues from day one, and, clearly, those were never able to be fixed.
The crazy thing surrounding AirPower, is the fact that it actually got announced! A company such as Apple, surely, would have gone through vigorous testing before announcing a product such as this, but clearly they didn’t.
Apple’s SVP of Hardware Engineering;
After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have cancelled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward
The cancellation of AirPower is actually surprising recently, as Apple mention AirPower on so many products, including the just announce AirPods 2, though it’s worth mentioning those have a 2018 date, so clearly delays have been caused across the board.
