Following the previous announcement about Samsung, LG and Vizio are the next names of TV providers set to gain features previously exclusive to Apple TV on their Smart TVs.
Whilst it’s clear that Samsung is getting the full attention by Apple, based on what’s being offered, but that’s not to say they’ve been shortchanged either, as both TV brands will have full support of Apple’s AirPlay 2 technology, but, in LGs case, also full support for Apple’s HomeKit technology which could be a bigger deal than you think, as it will allow full control of any of your HomeKit enabled devices via your always connected LG TV.
Users can use their own voice to get things done with Amazon Alexa, a new addition to LG’s AI TV lineup in 2019, and the support of Apple AirPlay 2 and HomeKit. With AirPlay 2, users can easily play videos directly from their Apple devices, iTunes and other video apps, music or photos to their LG SIGNATURE OLED TV R. With Apple HomeKit support, customers will be able to control their LG TV using the Home app or by asking Siri.
LG press statement
Whilst select models of Visio TVs won’t be gaining HomeKit support, and whilst both won’t get a full iTunes Movies and TV app like Samsung, they all will gain AirPlay 2 Support.
