The Galaxy Note 7 may be Samsung’s latest beast coming upon the world, but here’s some press attention they’d probably rather not have. Turns out the Galaxy Note 7 has some major battery quality issues, some of which could cause explosions.
Samsung have confirmed in a statement that this is only expected to affect a meer 0.1% of sold devices, but they feel this has to be done as this could be affecting thousands of devices out there, and that’s only likely to grow without measures taken forward.
“Products installed with the problematic battery account for less than 0.1 percent of the entire volume sold”
For now it’s questionable how Samsung plans to perform the recall, or if there’s any way to test which of the Note 7s sold are affected, maybe a batch number on the Serial or IMEI perhaps.

Statement from Samsung + What you need to know
Whilst a phone recall over something as dangerous as a potential exploding battery may be something for you to worry about, Samsung thankfully seem to be working hard to get the faulty Note 7 units to be replaced by new models with as little of hiccups as possible.
Should I keep using my Note 7?
It’s natural that if you’re currently possibly even reading this on a Galaxy Note 7, you’re probably a bit weary to continue using it. Whilst that is very understandable, we must keep in mind that not every Galaxy Note 7 is affected by the Battery Problem so unless your device is specifically called, you should be alright.
Based upon the now full statement by Samsung, which we’ve added below, there’s only been 35 cases of the issues out of 1 million devices sold, so it’s definitely unlikely yours could be next, or even is one affected, but with Samsung not giving any hints what current Note 7 users should do to even check if they’re one of those type of devices, naturally we’re left a bit in limbo.
What’s causing phones to be recalled?
Samsung’s official statement on the recall says that the issue relates to the battery cells used in some Note 7s, which lines up with the earlier reports of phones catching fire and exploding. Low-quality battery cells are susceptible to overheating and failing when charged and used heavily. So, it’s natural that any future Samsung phones should have much better quality of Batteries we’d imagine going forward.
But, not to repeat ourselves but, based on the number of reports that have actually happened, you yourself shouldn’t be too worried, but again given Samsung are now investigating it heavily, we have to credit Samsung for that, and a new Note 7 will be given to those in the recall.
Has my Note 7 being recalled?
Recal processes are likely different based upon countries affected;
In the US, carries will release details as early as possibly today, so if you purchased your Note 7 from a Carrier we recommend checking your Carrier website. We’d expect some update page, based on previous recalls, in which you should be eventually check your version number somehow.
In the UK, Samsung have straight up halted sales of the Note 7, though naturally some Note 7s are in the wild, Samsung claims they should be replacing theses in the coming weeks, and recommended Customers phone Samsung’s customer service line at: 0330 726 1000.
Interestingly, China is the lone exception to the recall, leading us to believe that Samsung may have used different batteries in the Chinese variants of the Note 7.
What do I do if mine is recalled?
When your phone is recalled, Samsung will replace it — the process is expected to take a few weeks, it’s as simple as a simple swap with a new device likely with the fixed battery.
So, the replacement will definitely be ok?
We’d like to believe that if a recall of this magnitude is going on, Samsung must have isolated the issue to what is causing it enough to be able to replace confidently with a working safe unit.
Of course, nothing is ever guaranteed, though we’d imagine this is something they will have learned from. The fact of this recall from just 35 instances to us, tells us they’re serious about customer safety.

Samsung Will Replace Current Note7 with New One
Samsung is committed to producing the highest quality products and we take every incident report from our valued customers very seriously. In response to recently reported cases of the new Galaxy Note7, we conducted a thorough investigation and found a battery cell issue.
To date (as of September 1) there have been 35 cases that have been reported globally and we are currently conducting a thorough inspection with our suppliers to identify possible affected batteries in the market. However, because our customers’ safety is an absolute priority at Samsung, we have stopped sales of the Galaxy Note7.
For customers who already have Galaxy Note7 devices, we will voluntarily replace their current device with a new one over the coming weeks.
We acknowledge the inconvenience this may cause in the market but this is to ensure that Samsung continues to deliver the highest quality products to our customers. We are working closely with our partners to ensure the replacement experience is as convenient and efficient as possible.
