Sony have today announced the successor to their budget device family in the Xperia E5. The Xperia E5 takes everything that’s good out of Sony’s reason Xperia X devices announced earlier in the year and brings things down to a more budget conscious level, but in a very nice way.
Sure the device is plastic instead of metal, you expect that, but in terms of performance and specifications, Sony have thankfully being more generous with this years E device, which we’re thankful for as we had a few issues with the E4.
The display is still a 720p panel, but now at 5 inches with a much more vibrant IPS panel, although any improvement over the E4 display was going to be welcome.
Performance shouldn’t be a problem as Sony have included a more powerful MediaTek processor, namingly the MT6735, which should see notable improvements in performance over the previous, though it can be harder to get further information on MediaTek processors, but Sony seem to prefer them in their mid-range market.
Backing up that processor is a sizeable 1.5GB of RAM and you will have a much nicer 16GB of internal base storage to play with, instead of the 8GB of before, but one thing thankfully unchanged is that even that increased internal storage is still expandable by microSD up to 200GB.
Sony claim you will be able to get up to 2 days of Battery life out of the Xperia E5’s 2700mAh battery, whilst we don’t quite believe them, we’re sure you will get a very decent day out of the Phone, but would expect heavy users will still have to do that typical bedtime overnight charge.
The Xperia E5 will go on sale across select European markets (including UK), Latin America and Middle East & African markets from as soon as late June.
