Hurts – Some Kind of Heaven Single Review

Hurts - Some Kind of Heaven - Single

Following up from the darker sounding 2010 debut ‘Happiness’ and 2013’s ‘Exile‘, Hurts are now back with what sounds like a slight change of direction, at least at first, with their new single ‘Some Kind of Heaven’.

Whilst at first Some Kind of Heaven sounds rather cheap, with it’s rather over-commercial heritage, after quite a few listens it’s very clear that is still a classic Hurts song reminiscent of previous big singles such as ‘Miracle’ and ‘Better Than Love’.

The first thing that is clear surrounding ‘Some Kind of Heaven’, like many change of directions, whether big or small, is influences, and easily one of the biggest ones comes from a single Hurts featured in with Calvin Harris and Alesso ‘Under Control‘. The choice of backdrops, upper mood of the melodies really shows in ‘Some Kind of Heaven’, but after a few listens that’s most certainly not a bad thing.

Whilst loyal fans of Hurts may, at first, take ‘Some Kind of Heaven’ as a weak step in to the commercial music, from their usual dreary yet beautiful sound, remember first that this is just one track, and that once you give it the listens it deserves, a very decent preview in what we can expect from the upcoming third album by definitely one of our favourite duos in music, ones of which we don’t need to mention again have a rather special connection with us here at RKUK Media.

LYRICS

I am ready for the rapture, I am reaching for the light
But my heart screams hallelujah, When I hear your battle cry

(yeah, yeah)
I know we’re so young, But I swear you’re the one for me
(yeah, yeah)
I knew it right from the start

You’re some kind of heaven, That’s all that I need
I found it in you, I found it in you
You’re some kind of heaven, That’s all that I need
I found it in you, Too good to be true
You’ve got me singing baby;

Do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do-do

I don’t need a god to tell me that I’m wrong, I don’t need hell to make me scared of love
I don’t need a symphony to sing my song, ‘Cause there’s a choir of angels deep inside my lungs
And I can hear them sing;

(yeah, yeah)
Can you hear them sing?
(yeah, yeah)
I knew it right from the start

You’re some kind of heaven, That’s all that I need
I found it in you, I found it in you
You’re some kind of heaven, That’s all that I need
I found it in you, Too good to be true
You’ve got me singing baby;

Do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do-do
You’ve got me singing baby
Do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do
Do-do-do-do-do-do

I know when we’re together, My setting sun will shine
Let’s spend this night together, Let me make you mine

(x2)

It’s some kind of, it’s some kind of, it’s some kind of
It’s some kind of heaven
I knew it right from the start

You’re some kind of heaven, That’s all that I need
I found it in you, I found it in you
You’re some kind of heaven, That’s all that I need
I found it in you, Too good to be true
You’ve got me singing baby

(yeah, yeah)
Oh my love, oh my love
(yeah, yeah)
Oh my love
Yeah

Some kind of heaven
It’s some kind of, it’s some kind of, it’s some kind of
It’s some kind of heaven

rating4 – So their you have it, Some Kind of Heaven, off the upcoming third album by Hurts. Whilst it may have a side of commercial to it’s sound, that doesn’t take away the fact that this is a very decent song, and for once a rather uplifting song by the band. Yes, it’s not their best, and we’ll be keeping our ears locked on their new album once it launches, but we like what we hear so far.
