Microsoft rebranding Bing apps to MSN, making them cross platform!

In a surprise move today, Microsoft announced it will be bringing it’s entire Bing suite of applications cross-platform, as well as confusingly rebranding the ‘Bing’ name back to the dying brand of ‘MSN’.

Yep, that’s the full experience of Bing Health & Fitness, Travel, Finance, Food & Drink, Sports, News, Weather, as well as others including Maps (HERE), will be part of a new MSN apps scheme launching on the Web today, and coming to iOS and Android later in the year!

CLOUD FIRST, MOBILE FIRST

Of course, whilst this is a surprise announcement, looking at Microsoft recent ‘Cloud first, Mobile first’ strategy it actually makes a ton of sense, despite the loss in value the apps now have on Microsoft’s own platforms in the process.

We’re not saying Microsoft shouldn’t have done this, but the Bing suite of applications were becoming a very impressive reason for users to switch to Windows Phone, or even purchase a Windows 8/8.1 machine, so in that regard we’re disappointed they are bringing everything they have to offer to other platforms.

And it literally is every other platform, including iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Windows 8, as well as OS X and Blackberry 10 through a browser (browser version optionally available for other platforms as well).

WEB VERSION AVAILABLE NOW!
Bing…sorry, MSN Health & Fitness, online!

The changes have already begun, and available for you to check out online at Microsoft’s MSN Preview website, which you can check out below. As for iOS and Android app launches, they’re just branded as ‘coming soon’.
