When Nokia announced the Lumia 930, one added benefit, as has been one for many of Nokia’s flagships, was that Nokia would provide some very incising freebies to make the deal even more sweeter, and with the Lumia 930 they completely did that and then some with the ‘Wireless Connectivity Pack’!
The biggest problem, just to get it out of the way, with the Lumia 930 Wireless Connectivity Pack, was just how many people never knew about it! For example, the retailer (not shouting names) we purchased our Lumia 930 unit from, thought the Wireless Charger in the box was the free Connectivity Pack, and browsing online, many think that too, and it’s a shame to say, first, that wasn’t and second you’re probably too late now to claim this deal!
But, for those who were curious and searched around and was eligible (all Lumia 930 purchases 90 days upon launch could go to Lumia 930 offer website and claim) could claim the bundle in the Nokia collection of colours … although interestingly only the Yellow option was left for us, and they still gave us White to match the device we purchased. But, what do you actually get in the Connectivity Pack, well let’s run through them, including RRP price!
We also kind of thought it would be fitting if we took a picture of all these products using the Lumia 930 Camera.
£20 App Voucher
As far as self explanatory is concerned, this is more of less the definition! The £20 included App Voucher allows you to do, just that, purchase up to £20 worth of funds from the Windows Phone, or Windows Store.
Unlike previous, or regular Microsoft Vouchers however, this can only be used for Application and Game purchases, and will not work purchasing music or video from the Xbox Music/Video Store, which is a shame, but considering this is to pull people to the Windows Phone Store, it kind of makes sense in a way.
This is one of the freebies that comes as part of the Wireless Connectivity Pack, which we believe makes it a perfect addition for someone getting their first Windows Phone device. I mean let’s be fair, it’s rare to top £20 quickly on any App Store, so having that is really awesome.
To set up the Voucher;
on Windows Phone 8: go to ‘Wallet’, then (+) Add, then select ‘add Microsoft gift card’, you will then be able to enter the Pin at the back of the Voucher, after confirming your Microsoft Account you wish the £20 credit to be added to! IMPORTANT: When you first purchase something, you may need to switch your payment methods around before your purchase, otherwise the debit will roll from your connected Bank Account, once you do switch this however, it will then default back once your debits are used, which you can check within Wallet.
on Windows 8: Open the Store, swipe in from the right (move mouse to the top left/right) to bring up the Charms, tap Settings, then tap ‘Your Account’, then enter the code at the back of the Voucher in the box stated ‘Redeem codes’.
RRP: …well £20 obviously
Portable Wireless Charger (DC-50)
Despite all Lumia 930s coming with a free Wireless Charger, how about making that ‘Wireless’ Charger concept real with a Portable Wireless Charger which doesn’t need a plug socket to charge your device full and then some, this is the Nokia DC-50.
When it comes to working the DC-50, it really couldn’t be easier. You simply tap and hold the single button the 4 lights will respond with a pattern confirming the device is turned on, at which you can then pop your phone on the top and begin charging. The 4 lights also act as a battery level for the Charger itself, whilst a single LED at the other side provides confirmation that your device is charging.
To switch off the device, tap and hold the same button, until the same pattern resinates on the 4 lights, which will then confirm the device is turned off. Should you wish to test if the device is switched off, you can of course try placing your phone on the device to double check. Personally, we’d of preferred a mechanical on/off button, but other than that we’re very happy with the device.
Portable NFC/Bluetooth Speaker (MD-12)
This is easily our favourite accessory which comes bundled in the Wireless Connectivity Pack, this Portable Speaker. We previously tested a Portable Speaker by Nokia and let’s just say, it practically put us off ever trying another, but Nokia are completely forgiven with this marvel, the MD-12!
Whilst a single speaker, the MD-12 has a little trick up it’s sleeve to keep the audio quality high, by using the bottom of the device, in conduct with a hard surface it’s placed on, the Speaker can replicate a very decent bass level! Add that bass level, to the rather impressive audio quality and battery life, we’re very impressed with this speaker!
The device can connect to any Bluetooth device, or connect by using NFC on the right side of the device. You can pair the device together with the Device Manager, which is available on all Lumias. If you’re not using the device with a Nokia Lumia device, you can still connect and manage using your devices generic Bluetooth Settings.
Nokia Treasure Tag (WS-2)
It wasn’t until we realised this retails for £29.99 that we started questioning the reason for the Treasure Tags existence, but regardless we’ll get on to it.
The Nokia Treasure Tag is a tag you can attach to your keyring, or any other item possibly to make sure you don’t lose them. Once you’ve paired the Treasure Tag using NFC/Bluetooth in the Nokia Treasure Tag application (required) you can then remotely make the device sound, as well as detect where it is using a Map.
The biggest problem we have with the Treasure Tag is, that’s literally all you can do with the device, which if it wasn’t free, I’d be a pretty unsatisfied customer, but luckily it was so we get to try it out and be disappointed together!
IMPORTANT: Should you wish to sell, or use the Treasure Tag with any other device, you must disconnect it from the device its currently paired with, as the Treasure Tag will not connect with more than one device.
As well as the already in the box Wireless Charger (DT-601)
As we cut on earlier, it’s important to mention, regardless of the Wireless Bundle, that all Lumia 930s come with a matching Wireless Charger in the box, something which in itself is an incredible thing to find, and for first time users of Wireless Charging instantly introduces them to the technology!
So there you have it, that’s what you get in the Wireless Connectivity Pack. From our working out that’s a total value of, including the in the box Wireless Charger and bundle, £147.99 (RRP), which is incredible value, especially considering the Lumia 930 is available from £349 from some retailers!
Should you have missed the giveaway, or weren’t eligible we’re sorry, but for those that are eligible, we do recommend either contacting who you purchased your Lumia 930 from and asking about it, or visit the Lumia 930 Offers page and call them, not down your IMEI number before hand.
