HTC announce HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

After months of rumours and speculation, not to mention the highest level of leaks, the mini version of the new HTC One M8 is finally here … brace yourself for the worst name ever, the HTC One Mini 2. Whilst it’s not full of the highest specs, something we’ve come to expect from mini versions, unless you’re Sony of course, the One Mini 2 is definitely a phone we’ve had our eye on for quite some time, the beautiful design of the M8 in a smaller compact package, we’re in! But, something to keep in mind is those specs which we’ll get to now.

Not much has changed from the previous HTC One Mini, design is more or less the same with M8 touches, and a very slight processor bump, and the fact unfortunately remains that this will never keep up with the device it’s based on, but that won’t stop this being a stella device. The One Mini 2 will also come in the same M8 options, including Gunmetal Grey, Glacial Silver and, disgusting …sorry, Amber Gold.

  • 1.2GHz Quad-core SnapDragon 400
  • 4.5 inch 720p Display
  • 1GB Ram
  • 4G LTE
  • 16GB Internal Storage
  • MicroSD Card Slot (up to 128GB)
  • Cornin Gorilla Glass 3
  • 13MP Rear Camera
  • 5MP Front Facing Camera
  • 2,100mAh Battery
  • Android 4.4.2 Kitkat with HTC Sense 6

Whilst we were hoping for a Xperia Z1 Compact style mini phone, what we are left with is a very decent mid-range spec phone from HTC. The one problem that instantly hits us with the One Mini 2, is that the specs are almost identical to the new Desire range announced at MWC. Whilst the One Mini 2 will obviously have that striking HTC One design, instead of the polycarbonate design of the Desire range, it is likely to be much more expensive, but the One Mini 2 does look awesome!

One thing to keep in mind, whilst this is a HTC One branded device, and is running Sense 6, you will not however be able to create Zoes or Highlights in the Camera, which to be perfectly honest isn’t something we’ll be missing, despite the fact that it mentions it can in the Press Release.

So, there you have it, the HTC One Mini 2, whilst we think M8 Mini would have been a better name, what can you do. Specification wise, the One Mini 2 does closely resemble the Moto G, and we’re interested to see how this thing will be priced, as the Desire range aren’t exactly cheap, the price will likely tell whether this device does well or not. The big question we’ve got, is it worth getting this One Mini 2, or getting the original HTC One (M7), as price wise we’re predicting they’d be rather similar, just something to keep in mind.

Will you be getting the HTC One Mini 2? Is it the phone you’ve been waiting for, or have HTC let you down with the lower specs, we have to say we’re disappointed by the specs, but can’t be helped.

HTC launches the beautifully compact HTC One mini 2

5MP front-facing camera, HTC BoomSound™ and HTC Sense™ 6 offer a best-in-class experience, wrapped in an iconic design

London, 15th May 2014 – HTC, a global leader in innovation and design, today unveiled the HTC One mini 2, the latest addition to its renowned HTC One family. Featuring a compact, yet generous 4.5″ HD display, HTC Sense™ 6 with HTC BlinkFeed™ and an impressive 5MP front-facing camera, the HTC One mini 2 brings the iconic metal craftsmanship and best-in-class experience of the HTC One (M8) to those in search of a more compact model. “The latest member of the award-winning HTC One family distills the advanced features that have earned it global acclaim, into an elegant, compact handset”, said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation. “Its size and tapered edges fit perfectly in a hand, pocket or purse, making it look great and feel even better to use. It’s the perfect choice for those who love the iconic design of the HTC One (M8) yet want something more compact.”

Beauty runs in the family

Sporting the same breakthrough design that led HTC to receive an iF gold product design award in 2014 for the HTC One (M7), the sleek HTC One mini 2 features the smoothly curved back and brushed Gunmetal Gray finish of the HTC One (M8). Also available in Glacial Silver and Amber Gold, its compact size and stylish design make it an obvious choice for those who want a phone that both looks and feels incredible.

High quality camera for naturally stunning selfies

With a 5MP front-facing camera, high-quality selfies are guaranteed. Re-takes won’t be required, as the front camera’s self-timer gives you ample time to prepare your pose before the image is captured.

To give those self-portraits an element of professionalism, the HTC One mini 2 also features Touch Up for subtle beauty enhancements to smoothen the skin, eliminate red eye and adjust the contours of the face, while still looking natural. If you’re feeling playful, you can also give your selfies a manga-like effect using Touch Up’s eye-enhancement feature.

HTC BoomSound™ – A small device that makes a big sound

It may be compact, but the HTC One mini 2 packs HTC BoomSound technology to deliver powerful, crisp and clear audio that has never been more brilliant. Equipped with the same amplifier as the HTC One (M8), the One mini 2 delivers rich tones from bass through to treble, producing high-quality, immersive sound through the dual-frontal speakers that have become synonymous with the award-winning HTC One family.

HTC BlinkFeed™ – The news that matters, live on your home screen

Turning your home screen into a live stream of the latest news and social updates, HTC BlinkFeed™ makes the content that matters to you more accessible and easier to read than ever before.
