Here we go, the one we’re waiting for, talk on iPhone! Out he comes, Scott, the man of the iPhone, ready to tell us about some interesting things. Starting with a recap of the year since the iPhone 3G and 2.0 Software update, finishing by mentioning theirs 50,000 app on the App Store. 40 million iPhone OS devices have now been sold! On April 23rd 2009, 9 months of App Store, 1 Billion apps were downloaded. They then showed a random developer video, actually rather interesting, then how 3.0 will change that.
But with a new OS, comes new APIs, over 1000. Including ‘In App Purchase’, this is for paid apps only, and you can buy things inside an app, eg. A new track in a racing game! Next up ‘Peer to Peer’, great for gaming and more, 2 player basically! Next, Accessories, plug in accessories for the iPhone! Next up, Maps. A cocoa touch control has been built to allow Maps in your applications. Plus turn by turn applications available too! Next, Push Notifications, which allows you to receive, lets say an IM update, even if that apps not open!
After that, their was a few demonstrations by developers Gameloft started off, but I’m not going through them here! Two demos went wrong, but some pretty cool things were shown!
Just reminder, iPhone 3.0 will be free for all iPhones, and $9.99 for all iPod Touches from June 17th.
And after all that, back to Phil, the product guy, to introduce a new product. He announced that 65% of mobile internet browsing is done through an iPhone. Also he did an App Store comparison to competitors.
iPhone = 50,000+
Android = 4,900+
Nokia = 1000+
Blackberry = 1000
Palm = 18
There’s also a new battery as well, around a forth times faster! It also passes energy saving as well! Not to mention all the feature of 3.0 and of course the 50K+ apps so far in the App Store.
The iPhone 3GS is $199 for 16GB and $299 for 32GB version, both now come in black and white. But, to add to that, the old iPhone 3G 8GB will still be available for $99. The iPhone 3GS will be released June 19th.
Like always they created an add, mostly advertising the video capabilities, advert here!
